Chiltern Hills backpacking 2-day trek – 32 miles
Last weekend, I guided a 2-day trek of 32 miles with an overnight at a lovely tavern. The group was fantastic, with many newbie trekkers who’d been on day hikes with me but not long-distance, per-day backpacking.
The trails were challenging in sections from the stormy rain we’ve had, but the rewards were plentiful of the panoramic views and stunning forests and woods we got along the way.
Chiltern Hills backpacking trek stats:
Day 1: Approx 15 miles, including hill climbing (Approx time 8 hrs walking time)
Day 2: Approx 17 miles, including hill climbing (Approx time 9 hrs walking time)

Chiltern Hills backpacking
Despite the challenging trails, everyone in the group showed great determination and resilience, enthusiastically tackling each obstacle. It was truly inspiring to witness their growth and passion for outdoor adventure.
The first day of the Chiltern Hills backpacking trek began with navigating muddy paths and slippery roots. The rain-soaked ground made the footing tricky, but we all supported and encouraged one another. As we climbed several hilltops, the clouds started to clear, revealing breathtaking views of the rolling hills and valleys.
After a long day of trekking, our tired legs led us to the lovely tavern where we spent the night. The warm welcome and the cosy atmosphere instantly lifted our spirits. We gathered around the dinner table, sharing stories and laughter.

The following day, we set off refreshed and rejuvenated, ready to conquer the remaining miles of our Chiltern Hills backpacking trek. The weather had cleared up, and the sun’s rays illuminated the lush autumn colours of the foliage and vibrant wildflowers along the trail. So many variations of fungi were also present in the damp woods. It was as if nature was rewarding us for our perseverance.
Throughout the day, we encountered a variety of terrain, from narrow winding paths through dense woods to hilltops with expansive views. As we approached the final stretch, a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction filled the air.
Finally, we reached our destination in the moonlit darkness, tired but exhilarated. The collective determination and support within the group were evident, making the trek all the more memorable and meaningful.
