What is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)?

What is Seasonal Affective Disorder? As the days grow shorter and darkness descends earlier, it can be hard to keep your head up.

Those affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) struggle with the same feelings of despair, loneliness, and restlessness that those suffering from other types of depression deal with daily.

It’s important to remember that Seasonal Affective Disorder doesn’t have to define you. With the right combination of therapy and lifestyle changes, you can learn to cope with SAD and find joy in life again.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Whether going for a walk in nature or spending quality time with friends and family, there are simple things you can do daily that will help improve your mood and outlook on life.

From someone who cares about your wellbeing: don’t let the dark winter months break your spirit. Reach out for help when needed, and remember that there is always someone willing and ready to listen and support you through this.

It’s all about taking one day at a time and knowing that each step forward will bring you closer to feeling whole again. Hiking in nature is a fantastic first step to feeling better and in the moment, significantly when you can walk with other like-minded people who understand and are willing to talk.

Though the exact causes aren’t known, Seasonal Affective Disorder is thought to be linked to reduced exposure to sunlight in the winter months. Symptoms include a low mood, lack of interest in activities, fatigue, weight gain, and difficulty concentrating.

Seasonal Affective Disorder

You don’t have to suffer in silence; understanding and managing Seasonal Affective Disorder is possible. Talk to your doctor about strategies such as light therapy, but it must be said that regular exercise and a healthy diet can help you feel better, too. Remember, you are not alone!

Please join one of my hikes, enjoy the soothing vibes of nature and even talk if you feel inclined. It’s what these hikes are all about – let it all out and be in the moment.
